Widely regarded as one of the most influential guitarists of the past four decades, Eric Johnson is a Grammy Award winning artist whose virtuosity has redefined instrumental rock. Long before releasing his debut album, the Austin, Texas native was already revered among elite musicians for his precision, tone, and melodic depth, drawing comparisons to legends like Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck.
Eric Johnson first gained national attention with his 1986 solo debut Tones, a release hailed by Guitar Player magazine as a “majestic debut” and earning him a Grammy nomination for the track “Zap.” His career reached international acclaim with the platinum selling 1990 album Ah Via Musicom, featuring the iconic instrumental “Cliffs of Dover,” which won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance and remains one of the most celebrated guitar compositions of all time.
Over the course of his career, Eric Johnson has released seventeen solo albums and collaborated with world class artists including Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Mike Stern. He has received eight Grammy nominations, been inducted into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats, and consistently ranked among the greatest guitarists by Rolling Stone, Musician magazine, and the Austin Chronicle, which repeatedly named him Best Electric and Acoustic Guitarist in his hometown.
A dynamic performer, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist, Eric Johnson seamlessly blends rock, blues, jazz, fusion, classical, and soul into performances that are as emotionally resonant as they are technically stunning. In recent years, he has continued to tour extensively, including the G3 Reunion Tour, the Experience Hendrix Tour, and his acclaimed Treasure Tour, with new live recordings released in 2025.
