The Salt River Indian Community is comprised of two tribes; the Pima or "Akimel O'Odham" (River People) and the Maricopa or "Xalychidom Piipaash" (People who live toward the water).
The Salt River reservation was established by President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1879. Today there are over 8000 members of the Community, most of whom are Pima. The SRPMIC owns and operates several enterprises, including Salt River Materials Group, Saddleback Communications and Casino Arizona. The Community and its tribal government are known throughout Indian Country for their business savvy and successful community programs.
The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian culture adds a richness and diversity to Phoenix, Scottsdale and surrounding communities with their history, art and culture. To learn more about the community please visit the community web site at www.srpmic-nsn.gov.
